long talked of the planned roadmap for Ubuntu 11.04, 11.10 and Ubuntu Ubuntu 12.04, and now that the development of Natty Narwhal wind in their sails, raise good as ever a preview of future months that are awaiting distribution.

Preliminary Roadmap Ubuntu UbuntuLogo 11.10

roadmap posted on the Ubuntu wiki is not definitive , but probably not change too much about the final version. And according to that document, these are the major milestones:

  • June 2, 2011: 11.10 Ubuntu Alpha 1
  • June 30, 2011: 11.10 Ubuntu Alpha 2
  • August 4, 2011: 11.10 Ubuntu Alpha 3
  • September 1, 2011: Ubuntu 11.10 Beta
  • October 6, 2011: Release Candidate Ubuntu 10.11
  • October 13, 2011: Ubuntu 11.10 Final
  • Fri If you compare this version with which we published in May 2010, you can check have advanced all the time . For the first three Alphas and the beta version just a day, but both the Release Candidate and the final version will be available 10 days before of the previous preliminary roadmap.

What can we expect from Ubuntu 11.10 Well, there are very few data are available, but perhaps the version that Wayland , the alternative to the traditional system X Window, operational, although this integration seems more designed to Ubuntu 12.04. What is virtually certain is the integration of Nokia’s Qt toolkit that will allow many more possibilities for developers, both KDE-especially in this case, since KDE will continue to work with Qt as a pillar – As with GNOME.

As the official name of the distribution, nothing is yet decided, but sources close to Canonical Ubuntu indicate that 11.10 will become ‘Oscillating Ocelot’ . It may or may not, but if you want you can check the list of 50 names candidates what is available in the Ubuntu documentation and those who are very funny names, like Orgasmic Octopus, Open Oyster, Omnipotent Orca, and why not, Open -Source Operating System (failure of the ‘System’, but it would be interesting, albeit highly unlikely).
