Nvidia Announces
own portable game console 2013
During their press conference at CES 2013 in Las Vegas, Nvidia managed to get a big surprise and announced their own portable game based on the new chip Tegra 4 Shield Project Nvidia.
The new shield is more or less standard size controller with a touch screen retina 5 inch 1280 × 720 with Nvidia DirectTouch 294dpi. It has rechargeable batteries capable of keeping up with a maximum of 38 hours of play and up to 24 hours of HD video playback, great integrated audio system as bass reflex and thus improves the quality of play. HDMI, micro USB, and microSDcard slot 3.5mm audio jack are also on board. Also integrated 802.11n wifi conection 2 × 2 MIMO providing high bandwidth, ultra-fast wireless transmission smooth gaming.
At least today, is based on Android Jelly Bean OS , or according to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, pure Android with no custom UI. The back of the screen has a label Shield customizable entire console is roughly the size of a standard controller.
Jensen was connected to LG 4K TV and is more or less what you would expect from an Android based device. You can control the device with the controller or the touchscreen and Tegra 4 seems to have enough power to push a 4K video through HDMI output , therefore enthusiasm shown in the presentation. The Shield Project has, as expected, the Nvidia Tegra connection zone, but can also transmit PC games, as it connects to steam and have so Big Picture.
Shield is, as Jensen, “the way it’s meant to be played in android”. Unfortunately, Nvidia official throws no light on the actual release date and did not even provide any clue about the price of the console Shield , its next handheld console. Some sources suggest that it may appear at some point in Q2 2013.
