This surprising fact, and some more have been revealed recently in a study published online. The Mark Zuckerberg’s social network, created seven years ago and present in Europe for only four, already in this year 2011 with 800 million users worldwide. Considering that the …

only recently emerged Firefox 5, in fact, many websites we anticipate his coming-publish official download. Today we will see how to upgrade to the latest version of the browser in openSUSE and Ubuntu. And there is ons like, in many ways .

firefox surf Update to Firefox and Ubuntu 11.04 5 in openSUSE 11.4

deeper reasons Nismrc have told us a few hours ago. There are more reasons, some technical (such as WebKit that it is not the only thing to hold on), but have not come to tell you about that, but how to upgrade to Firefox 5 on Ubuntu 11.04 and openSUSE 11.4 .

Why Ubuntu and openSUSE, with the distros out there? Because I was very pleasantly surprised both, since no need to do nothing special. Ubuntu just update , there is no need PPAs or the like that I read somewhere: at Canonical have an unprecedented gesture and WIN the whole family already enjoys 5 in Firefox official repositories .

openSUSE must be enabled repositories Firefox , or you should know how (I advance that is 4 clicks). Once activated the repository does not offer automatic updates to look for the package with YaST and WIN Firefox tab choose the appropriate version (and make the relevant changes are indicated in the installation, also with a few clicks).

nice gesture of the two distributions for a banner like Firefox, the Canonical noteworthy for the unusual , the openSUSE great for other reasons (you know who openSUSE version of KDE Firefox comes with prize). Sure there are more distributions that have done something similar (without going further, Arch Linux, although his case is different), but …

Although there are distributions that have offered before, the first of the large spearhead its launch GNOME Fedora 3 was 15. Unofficially has been openSUSE . If you want to remove the question marks for the title of this post and do with it, keep reading.

 OSG3 500x375

May 23, three days ago, a developer of openSUSE published new GNOME Image 3 of which serve as test mode Live CD , so far there is only Fedora and openSUSE. They are officers of both projects , but not distinguished by name or version number.

grace of the new images of openSUSE is that they had been built and optimized based on the latest version of VirtualBox (4.0.8) in order to offer the end half of GNOME 3 reliable test , because until now it was almost impossible to have any experience with Shell, for graphical problems that even the new Fedora solves (talking about VirtualBox).

words, you have download images below are currently the best way to test 3 in VirtualBox GNOME Live CD mode (the best or the only?). To do this successfully, remember to enable 3D acceleration in the program.

But best of all is that also be installed , from a launcher on your desktop (remember that the desktop is not the default GNOME 3). Once we have with us installed openSUSE 11.4 with GNOME 3 natively .

This again is interesting because GNOME 3 is available for openSUSE 11.4 repository via stable but install from scratch a system is much cleaner , right? Then it’s just a matter of adding a repository, give it a few tweaks and ready.

So to do with “openSUSE 11.4 GNOME 3″ versions for 32 and 64 bit, you only have to choose which is your download (and not deceive his pseudonym):

  • GNOME_3.i686-1.3.0-Build1.3.iso
  • GNOME_3.x86_64-1.3.0-Build1.3.iso
  • Wed Mola

If your system is openSUSE 11.4 and KDE your desktop, this version is 4.6.0. It’s easy to update and upgrade the entire environment to the latest version . Let’s see how.

KDE KDE OS Update to the latest version of openSUSE 11.4

Before giving the instructions, it should be noted that although is deemed reliable method , there is never one hundred percent sure nothing in matters of software, so go or not these steps is responsibility of each . Moreover, whatever your experience as a user, you must have good backups , just in case.

upgrade to new versions of KDE can be done via YaST, but it is faster and reliable face it the zypper command line . Three steps are enough (always as root):

This adds the repository SC KDE 4.6 for openSUSE 11.4 . At this time the update will SC KDE 4.6.3, when leaving the following will be added to upgrades that you have pending, and so on (you only have two updates to the current desktop branch, and in no case be updated SC KDE 4.7 when it comes out).

action will update the repository , the next will start the Desktop Update and its components.

Possible problems that you can find:

zypper reports errors with packages and given a choice between breaking units or keep the old version of a package, do not break anything , keep the version Future updates will be responsible for solving the problem.

once you have updated it to reboot (mandatory) and your password, you turn to again and again to the login screen, choose the option Session Type environment to log in, it would be “ KDE Plasma Workspace “.

Once the desktop should update the system , either from Konsole (“zypper up” as root), either from YaST.

With this update to the latest version of KDE SC not only find a more polished desktop, there are extra gifts in the form of the latest versions of applications like Amarok 2.4.1, Choqok 1.1, Kaffeine 1.2.2, among other not so nice (depending on your setup package).

Another thing to keep in mind is that if this post is directed solely to openSUSE 11.4 is for good reason: if upgrading from KDE 4.5 to KDE SC SC 4.6 can cause more a problem with desktop settings and it works, let alone from the SC KDE 4.4 that comes with openSUSE 11.3.

    Our fellow MuyComputer

have done what we expected and just published a thorough analysis of openSUSE 11.4, a distribution that appeared on the market for only 2 weeks and after more than 8 months of development is integrate a large number of internal and external improvements .

firefox opensuse114 500x283 All the secrets of openSUSE 11.4, exposed

analysis you can see the strengths and weaknesses (which also exist) in openSUSE 11.4, a much more rounded than the previous one mainly by the finish the integration of desktop environments (KDE again be the protagonist, but GNOME is also highly polished), and the inclusion of a new package management system that transmits a good feeling but it is still some green KPackageKit as our partners.

However the amount of news is such that small handicap is too small, and in our review we have even with a guide that will show the various installation screens. The availability of desktop environments and discussed alternatives such as XFCE, LXDE and even a draft, but already well advanced- GNOME GNOME 3 Shell makes clear the ambition of a distribution that wants to be valid for any user, including netbooks, as evidenced by the inclusion of Netbook Plasma, Plasma-oriented editing these little computers.

But the best part is that all these details prove in-depth analysis of openSUSE 11.4, you can find in MuyComputer.

    openSUSE 11.4 ready for combat

    class=”article first_main_article” readability=”76″>

is with us openSUSE 11.4, one of the most important releases of the year as far as Linux distributions relates and, pending the analysis, we will pre-heat a little room with the typical post guide -installation , especially dedicated to new users, leave this version ready for battle .

    OS1141 openSUSE 11.4 combat ready

Do you remember the things to consider before coming to openSUSE 11.4? Well. Forget that developers, packagers, artists and contributors of this distribution generally have earned honors creating the best version of openSUSE published to date .

First, the usual recommended quarantine after the release of any distribution (to prevent errors) seems to openSUSE 11.4 and the past, because it shows fast and very stable. Sure is something, always something , but seen and tested so far in GNOME and KDE versions is of note .

Second, extra repositories are available from before the release (never seen), so that the availability of the most popular packages, and many more, is from now to a couple of clicks away .

Installing the system is as simple as you might expect, but it options varies with the Live CD or DVD , the latter being the recommended option for most users, among other things, because the process is fully translated .

system already installed for the first time on the desktop, first thing is to update the computer . It can be done much faster by using zypper console, but let’s do it visually with via YaST Online Update .

As we shall see, the concept “out of the box” is very present in openSUSE and after the first update of rigor already have Flash Player, MP3, translations and dictionaries of the language you have chosen By default, many extra packages, etc. (if we ask to restart, it restarts).

time and turn back to YaST Software Repositories extra. The process is as simple as you can see below:

     500x377 YaST1 openSUSE 11.4 ready for combat
    openSUSE 11.4 YaST2 500x377 combat ready

     500x377 YaST3 openSUSE 11.4 ready for combat

     500x377 YaST4 openSUSE 11.4 ready for combat

repositories turn depend on our choice of desktop and software needs (we can activate the GNOME repositories although we use KDE to have more applications available and vice versa), using an NVIDIA graphics card but there are some common to all users as Contrib, Packman or libdvdcss .

    Once activated

repositories, there are more updates available and although it could do everything a little more “cold” towards errors to ensure the approach to a reliable system, we go step by step.

For example, if our NVIDIA graphics card, following this update we will have the proprietary drivers installed , but it should at least restart the graphical server for changes.

Now, let complete extra support packages, with special attention to the multimedia section with a click (the next action you must do it from Firefox, eye):

  • GNOME
  • KDE
  • Sat There. Do you need more applications? The software manager! O with One Click Install.

We have with us openSUSE 11.4

    class=”article first_main_article” readability=”53″>

Developers of this distribution have announced the release of openSUSE 11.4 in the final version , which was already mentioned this morning and has finally been fulfilled.

     500x313 opensuse11.4 us already have openSUSE 11.4

been 8 months since openSUSE 11.3 was launched and since then we have had a lot preliminary version (it seemed that the milestones are endless) that allowed us to get to know the evolution openSUSE 11.4. Well, we already have with us the final version. What can we expect from openSUSE 11.4?

    Well

as shown in the official announcement, many things . For starters, it’s a version based on Linux kernel 6/2/1937, a version of which we spoke on several occasions and that for example comes with drivers for WiFi chips from Broadcom, as well as improved support for Wacom tablets or support the latest graphics drivers and the latest versions of X.org and Mesa.

    Featured

Other internal components include replacing Vixie Cron by Cronius 1.4.6, which supports PAM and SELinux to certify safety. But especially noteworthy are the integration systemd GRUB2 and, in addition to the new version of the package manager ZYpp which among other things supports simultaneous downloads from different repositories. It promotes a better update of those repos and install packages.

developments come in the user interface, of course. For starters, star of KDE SC 4.6 , but we also have GNOME 2.32 and the option of using Shell and GNOME GNOME 3 in draft . Other desktop environments and window managers are included LXDE 4.8 and Xfce 0.5 .

    emphasizes applications

Firefox 4.0 “about to appear in final version, but that this distribution appears in one of his latest releases, and particularly LibreOffice 3.3.1 . The new office suite comes together with other solutions for working with documents as Scribus 1.4 based on Qt 4 and improvements in all areas.

    Other improvements

issues virtualization, server or application development , and also in the project area surrounding the distribution, and especially two: the famous BuildService and SUSE Studio, two gems of which we have spoken before and are still providing an important additional value.

MuyLinux we are preparing an analysis of the distribution , but in the meantime we leave you with the download links. If you want more information you can get the official announcement.
