hal 9000 600x450 Can I create a computer to express human emotions?

Today we find that computers are increasingly powerful and work through very powerful operating systems . However, since long before he began to popularize the use of PCs in households has raised the possibility that one day teams are capable of expressing human emotions .

The classic example of this case can be found in HAL 9000, the film 2001: A Space Odyssey . In Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece (of 1968) already embodied the idea of artificial intelligence able to experience emotions such as anger or rage . But, how close we are to something? Here are some examples.

id=”more-14241″> Desing Interactive is a firm that announced its collaboration with VRSonic development of Affective Virtual Environment Training System (A-VETS) . It is a tool that uses methods “noninvasive” to assess emotional responses in real time . As usual in such experiments application is for U.S. military use.

Another example is Ferrari , which is in the development of a special system for the car “read the mind” driver . A number of biometric and psychometric sensors in the vehicle cabin be able to monitor heart rate, blood pressure, facial reactions and brain activity of who is behind the wheel.

The primary objective is to monitor levels of driver fatigue, but the developers want forensic measure the reaction of the drivers in the moments before an accident caused by “road rage” (road rage) or driving at excessive speed.

Looking at other examples related to artificial intelligence capable of recognizing human emotions we must also mention the layered voice analysis (VLA), which has been developed in Israel. It is a system for several years and used by the computer to recognize different emotions in speech when interrogating criminals or terrorists .

see, all cases are bound to a specific application that makes it very difficult to believe that in the short term could see a computer, robot or artificial intelligence machine able to recognize and emulate emotions human. Would be accomplished with an interesting development, provided not result in a homicide unit as HAL 9000

never seen 2001: A Space Odyssey, this video will see what I mean when talking about computers with feelings.
