After two years in Identi.ca, MuyLinux longer have a presence in this clone of Twitter based on free software that never was lucky it deserved. Goodbye Identi.ca

 left Identi.ca logoMuyLinux identical

Before anyone swear in Hebrew, to clarify that there are several reasons for this neglect. And nothing more sincere than the numbers. At the time of writing this news, MuyLinux has 7800 followers on Twitter, an account with the same lifespan Identi.ca than where we are 167 people. In Facebook followers exceed 13,000 , on Google+ 1200 . With those numbers, it is understandable that we focus our attention on sites that do work, that after all are chosen by the vast majority of our readers.

understand that this announcement will cause some discomfort, but our intention is to improve where there is space to do so. I myself commented a couple of years ago there was much life in Identi.ca, and feel that I have lately is the opposite. Will the continuous failures that have scared the staff? Or does it have large finished eating? Anyway, my perception is that the activity somewhat lessened platform . As for failures, perhaps improve the situation with the jump that prepare Pump.io, who knows.

We would all like to Identi.ca or Diaspora * triumphed, because in addition to being based on free software are the right way to do things for privacy. Hopefully someday pass! Until then, we hope to reach as many people as possible, and mostly people have chosen another path. In fact, now we begin to interact more with users in social networks, was a simple repeater Identi.ca news , and for that we are already RSS.

In any case, I will continue with my active account Identi.ca (@ metalbyte) and ‘redentearĂ©’-or whatever-almost always all MuyLinux news. Do not worry if you do not want to follow me, because I do not follow anyone, only to “groups” and that’s how publish news. With have added the group that interests you will come to you (it’s a more efficient way to share the news).

Since we did look at all the channels through which you can follow MuyLinux, say goodbye to this entry through our email address, where you can send us notices, comments or whatever :

Tyrs is a microblogging client with support for Twitter and Status.net networks (used by Identi.ca) and is particularly interesting because has no graphical interface : ncurses uses Python module , language that is scheduled this unique application.

tyrs Tyrs: Twitter and Identi.ca from a terminal with ncurses

Tyrs also offers a configuration file so we can tailor their services , the appearance on screen or keyboard shortcuts.

Tyrs license is used to GPLv3, and WIN the development is available on Github , plus the source code is also available on PyPI page.

As shown in this blog where I found the news, there are other alternatives in this scenario: both BitleBee curious as TTYtter are options , but it seems that Tyrs ncurses support and give more power to client for Twitter and Identi.ca.

    You have more details

Tyrs in the original article, which talks about all the features of a solution really curious for those using the console mode all the time.

MuyLinux know you can follow on Twitter as well Identi.ca , so we have to try this also read MuyLinux client from there, do not you think? PHP 5.x :)

Saturday morning there are already two days fall Identi.ca , an error that comes curiously result of updating the site to Status.Net 1.0.0 , the software on which it sits.

Identi.ca Identi.ca logo still falling two days after upgrading to 1.0.0 StatusNet [Updated]

    Try

Identi.ca now enter only leads a error message topped by a link to the blog of Status.Net, name of the developer and its product, which explains the circumstances .

Apparently, full upgrade to the new version of Status.Net, with a key version number such as 1.0.0, all fell apart because of some errors in a script and what was supposed to last a few hours repair leads all the same weekend.

The penultimate update of the restoration process information on the company blog, linked above, I kept very good taste: “If you really need of Status.Net, maybe you should download the code and assemble your own site ?”

Somewhat scary, considering that the entire infrastructure cloud-Status.Net including corporate sites, is down , not only Identi.ca, the most striking.

the next and last post there are already hopes that the situation will be resolved during the night (in the U.S., throughout the morning in Spain), so we just have to wait a little more to, among others, Identi.ca back to life, perhaps the social network Tux how many exist today, also the best alternative to Twitter (what would have happened if Twitter take two days fall?) .

Update: I made a mistake in the writing of this article that should be clarified: Identi.ca delay in getting back online not only due to the error mentioned , it only lengthens waiting more embarrassing for which claims to be-indeed, it is, the more serious alternative to Twitter. A weekend offline to update the platform? That business is called fudge.

You know I love many Identi.ca, much more than Twitter, not only for its Open Source nature, also have a more organized structure and especially the air we breathe geek, especially Linux user.

But one thing does not remove the other … Can you imagine the headlines that would give even the mainstream press, if they fell two days away from online services like Twitter, Facebook, Gmail …

Apologies if anyone has been confused with the first information. Hope has been clarified.
