latest official version of the famous Open Source player MPlayer was the 1.0-rc4, announced no less than in January 2011. For a year and a half this application developers have hardly been heard of them, and indeed the theoretically never appeared imminent MPlayer 1.0 publicly.

MPlayer 1.1 MPLayer1 comes softly

However, as indicated on Phoronix, suddenly on the FTP site project officer has appeared MPlayer 1.1 , and will observe a version that passes directly from the 1.0 that was expected to offer a higher edition and as explained in the original article is genuine.

the change log that can be found in the source package are improvements since MPlayer 1.0-rc4, and among which experimental support of binary codecs Quicktime, experimental support for OpenGL ES 1.0, the PGS support to play Blu-ray , the DVB subtitle support and XSUB, and a version of Wine.

seems that those responsible wanted to joke with this version of MPlayer , whose code name is “ We Gave up on 1.0 ” (“We surrender to the 1.0″ ) and hopefully means that from now on will come more news from one of the most relevant media player Linux landscape.
