effort to achieve an Open Source driver for NVIDIA graphics cards spent seven years running: the Nouveau project has concluded with the publication of Nouveau 1.0.0 , a development version of redondísima with a huge merit.
The move to that version shows the maturity of the open controller, which have long been part of Mesa 3D long and WIN Nouveau DRM driver which is developed as part of the Linux kernel and left the area Linux 3.4 kernel staging for some time.
This development supports 2 monitors configurations with aa 2D acceleration via EXA, while providing all the necessary components to achieve 3D acceleration with virtually all NVIDIA chips .
firm proprietary drivers are doing much better 3D gaming but not too complex in structure and WIN graphical effects for GNOME or KDE Nouveau drivers and 3D performance is more than enough . That’s right: these drivers are not able (yet) to manage the power saving modes, so that fans of our discrete graphics shall be operated with much greater frequency. Anyway, many congratulations to the entire development team for a simply fantastic.
