sure many remember how almost two years ago that Microsoft managed to sneak in a rather doubtful (smelled like dead) its OOXML document format , making it a standard that no one used, not even Microsoft Office -not correctly, at least. No matter, because the Redmond had achieved their goal.

factoffice2007 Europe want a better implementation of OOXML in LibreOffice and OpenOffice.org

any case, it appears that Microsoft has more standard concern for European authorities to which one might think, so German and Swiss specialists have been working to improve OOXML document support in the LibreOffice and office suites OpenOffice.org , as reported in The H Open.

And not much more to tell because this is an initiative that was just made and go for long, but it is known that the resulting development will be released under Apache License v2.0 and one of the points that will be focused on improving interoperability between OOXML and ODF , which is fine.

It might have been interesting more strongly promote ODF from the authorities instead of having this “gesture” to OOXML, but, as they say … Put here saying you will.

LibreOffice

development is booming, adding all the fans that OpenOffice.org has left the road, long before the Oracle lose interest in the office suite, so now that development has been donated to the Apache Foundation. Brazilian administration will work with both projects .

The Brazilian government has signed a letter of commitment to trying to work with The Document Foundation and the Apache Foundation in the development of two office suites. The letter states that the standard format for documents ODF is a guarantee of work for the government , where both applications are used massively.

report in The H-Open the letter, which can be downloaded in this link ODT was signed on July 1 during the International Free Software Forum in Porto Alegre, Brazil, members of government and prominent foundations.

This growth at the base of developers seems to be exactly the kind of news we all need at this time ” said Simon Phipps, a member of the board of OSI and co-presenter of a session information about OpenOffice.org at FISL after the event.

Therefore, we add. We hope something good comes out of this collaborative approach also means -small, yes, between two sister projects, such as OpenOffice.org and LibreOffice .

a couple of days ago we talked about the rumors that pointed to a possible disappearance of the OpenOffice.org project. The little news that came from this office suite did think the worst .

openoffice1 OpenOffice.org Oracle gives him the Apache Foundation

However, things have changed in interesting ways. We are told our fellow MuyComputer, reminding us that Oracle Sun acquired last year and with it all open source projects maintaining, incluyendoOpenSolaris, the Open Source OS -he left-and OpenOffice.org , among others.

To date there were numerous rumors about the future of OpenOffice.org , in fact spoke directly that they had abandoned the project because they did not fit the dates of updates are not answered any questions by developers.

LibreOffice was speculation over whether to inherit the name-much-trodden and popular office suite OpenOffice, but in the end, Oracle has taken a step forward in the area ceded ceding control of the OpenOffice code base org. the Apache Software Foundation project Incubator .

Oracle has seemed to finally understand that the developers of OpenOffice migration to the new project LibreOffice leaving a gap next to impossible to meet to continue to maintain the distribution, free and open software, which would not bring practically benefits .

Jim Jagielski, chairman of the Apache Foundation , has been proud about it, but for now we will have to wait and see if they can return to form one office suite project OpenOffice.org open between and LibreOffice.

Oracle has announced that OpenOffice.org leaves in the hands of the community, with the intention of retaining such a project purely Open Source . Also end up paying corporate editions. What does this mean?

OpenOffice.org openoffice oracle Oracle left in the hands of the community ... too late?

In the ad, only makes it clear that Oracle no longer interested in the conventional office automation solutions, leaving OpenOffice.org to the community, ending its paid edition and decanting the future into the cloud although, as reported in The H Open, has also been dispensed with Oracle Cloud Office, ODF-compatible proprietary alternative. Well, and who remain committed to the Open Source.

Again, what does this mean? Will they pay developers? Why now? Why not earlier when the community demanded it? Do you have something to do with the enormous support it has received LibreOffice? Is there any possibility that two sister communities such as those of OpenOffice.org and LibreOffice unite in a single or at least cooperate

Too many questions floating “clouds” and there is still the key: it bluntly, could change the title of this entry for “Oracle rid of OpenOffice.org “? At one time we will know, the moment it is best to keep the current owner, including quotes and questions. Or place your bets .

That’s the conclusion of an analysis of Linux for Devices in which they evaluated both office suites and have compared the latest versions presented by The Document Foundation and Oracle respectively.

As you know, LibreOffice appeared as a clone of OpenOffice.org attitude after learning of the Oracle at the Open Source in general and OpenOffice.org in particular. Many of the current distributions have supported the development of LibreOffice and have joined their evolution, while OpenOffice.org is out, unfortunately, a very bad reputation for the future of the project,

That reputation could also be further compromised by the actual payment of the two suites, is that as indicated in the original article there are several features of LibreOffice 3.3 that already show the potential of this fork in front of the original suite .

For example, in LibreOffice we import the same type of files from OpenOffice.org, but also can work with documents imported from Lotus WordPro and MS Work , plus improved import filters for WordPerfect files.

Other formats supported or whose compatibility has been improved compared to OpenOffice.org 3.3 are the SVG import in Draw and Writer, or PPTX file (PowerPoint 2007/2010) for the tool Presentation of LibreOffice. The same applies to XSLT and ODF documents that can be loaded and saved into an XML flat format for faster processing.

Another improvement is the new dialog box for the option “Save as …” , which only shows the appropriate document formats, but that does not stop the user if they really want to save in other formats.

people curious may also discuss some of the experimental performance LibreOffice 3.3-not any specific details, but if any, as witches, Hayles.

All this makes

LibreOffice 3.3 A first version of this office suite which apparently is beginning to win the game to their own “mother.” And we hope to continue doing , especially for the good of Open Source and its philosophy.
