battle holding current desktop environments and shells in all is making specific distributions appear who try to maximize the benefits that both sides want to pass competitors.
The last of these distributions is noteworthy GNOME Ubuntu 12.10 Alpha Remix , the first draft of a distro that is part of the official Ubuntu family but unlike conventional version GNOME 3 and Unity uses GNOME 3 with GNOME Shell but .
Given the criticisms that some users have with Ubuntu and Unity, the plan to offer an independent distro based on GNOME Shell seems like a great idea, and in fact this is the first time that I know of that offers GNOME 3.6 Beta serial in a distribution.
That
allow both GNOME Shell lovers and those curious to prove the benefits of a desktop environment and an interface that we have seen recently seems to have gained more integers in usability and stability.
Obviously this is an Alpha version so I recommend you try in test environments (virtualization is useful here), but still will be watching to see how this distribution evolves.
You can download
details GNOME Ubuntu Remix 12.10 and download the 32 and 64 bits in the official project page here.

responsible for taking the decision to develop its own desktop interface, Unity, which first ran on GNOME 2, and then adapted to GNOME 3 .
was with the jump to GNOME 3 where users could start using GNOME Shell, so that the sign could be used both Unity and GNOME Shell, but no version “pure” Ubuntu GNOME Shell and without Unity for those who simply do not want the native environment of Canonical.
Muktware explain how we create our own “Gubuntu” , a wholly derived from Ubuntu distribution but instead of Unity includes GNOME Shell.
The secret of this installation is very simple: instead of downloading the desktop version of Ubuntu, we have to choose Ubuntu Server , whose installation, care is done in text mode , not via a graphical wizard . So before you proceed, you must be convinced to complete the installation without the graphical wizard, which is not complicated but it can raise questions to the novice user.
the installation process will ask you one step “Select keyboard languages.” You must select “No” and then select the appropriate language in the next step. When prompted to “Select packages to install”, just press Enter to install the system by default. Something more delicate is the selection of the partition that you should make carefully .
Once installed Ubuntu Server and rebooted the computer see a console with your prompt, no graphical interface . To solve the latter will have to enter the system with our username and password, then type the commands
sudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install gnome
This will download and install lots of packages, and upon completion will have to reboot and select GNOME (and Ubuntu) from the login screen. We already have a 3 with GNOME GNOME Shell, but there are packages and tools not available in the base repo, so should add the PPA repository GNOME Team 3 to access these solutions. To do this:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa: gnome3-team/gnome3
can install GNOME utilities such as Tweak Tool (seek him in Synaptic, it installs itself, as the Ubuntu Software Center is not included in the installation of GNOME 3 we have done), and and you can go from start to finish shaping your GNOME Shell.

applets are sort of extensions supervitaminadas with respect to extensions of GNOME 3, and Lefebvre expects all developers to implement applets, and only write extensions for “advanced purposes.”

GNOME Shell issues continue to show the versatility of this visual interface, and lately there have been some really curious. palm takes the issue in this case Shell Ice Cream , which mimics some of the visual elements of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
discussed in Tech Drive-In, where they reveal the minimum requirements to enjoy this. Specifically, we will install the fonts Roboto (here) and the official wallpaper (here) that are used in Android 4.0, and then download the theme and place it in our theme folder (/ home / USER /. themes /) to select it from GNOME Tweak Tools.
original article explains the process to enable this issue, so we leave you with this detailed resource. We have been tested and although the result is curious, finish is far less perfect , although it is revealed in the user menu or in some visual elements to launch the activities.
nice way to customize your desktop , of course. What do you think?
