happen interviews the creator of the Linux kernel, Linus Torvalds, and this time the boys were TechRadar those who have made a meeting in which Linus have asked for some interesting questions, and above all the I did mention in my interview with Mark Shuttleworth: “Less is more?”. I mean, would not it be better fewer options

Linus Torvalds Linus Torvalds 500x376: Some things would be simpler if there were no options

The interviewer asked him the same question, “Have you failed Linux on the desktop because there are too many options? “, something that Linus replied stating that the fundamental problem is that people do not want install anything, and manufacturers have Linux preinstalled in almost any case .

Linux

But then again on the subject when the interviewer makes a comment about PulseAudio, a system that gives perhaps too many options rather than a volume control with which all developers should provide support. Instead the complexity of PulseAudio has complicated their success and alternatives have appeared as Jack, not necessarily better or worse, just different. And that’s when Linus says “ Yes, some things would be simpler if there were no choice, I agree with you “.

The interview is interesting because it is very hot some issues such as the integration of Android in the kernel or the status of Secure Boot (which Linus has good review). Also think about the fact that you have a MacBook Air, which claims its hardware design is fine but “ with the hardware itself have often done some stupid things “. No further clarifies the concept, but the fact is that Fedora on your Mac Book Air .

The last question is particularly curious because the interviewer asks the same to all personalities ranging Linux to interviewing: “Linus Torvalds If you were, what would you change about Linux? ” , to which Linus replied “I would not change anything “.

for months been talking about this alternative to traditional X11 windowing system, and although its advantages are remarkable both for users and for developers, there are still many points to be resolved. And that has just announced the availability of Wayland 1.0 (and its window manager, Weston).

1 0 Wayland Wayland 1.0 available, but there is still some way to go

is because as indicated on Phoronix, the creator of Wayland Wayland explained that Kristian Høgsberg 1.0 “ simply defines the point at which developers can Wayland sure no backward compatibility with the Wayland-based protocol and its API “.

So we have a version particularly relevant Developer , but not as crucial for end users: it will take even see Wayland in action in any standard distribution, and in fact the list points to be solved is important, as revealed in the original article.

Phoronix

believe that although there may be attempts to integrate Wayland in Ubuntu 13.04, and that support this integration will not be realized until Ubuntu 13.10 , which only appear within a year. Other distributions like Fedora will also demonstrate the experimental possibilities of this system of windows, but again we are left with this message: way to go.

Compiz? The project led by smspillaz has long been one of the most attractive of any Linux distribution, not only has provided stationery fantastic visually, but also offered significant improvements in usability in many sections .

compiz Compiz needs some encouragement 500x323

The primary responsibility

Compiz seems to be somewhat depressed and disappointed with the progress of the project, and has actually written an article some fallen on his official blog in which he apologizes for the progress of the project, which he is not the it should be. “I have failed “, repeated at all times, indicating that the community has disappointed Compiz, Ubuntu and previous developers who worked on Compiz.

legendary Compiz is a project within the Linux world , and its author seems to blame for its stability, according to him, which is getting worse, or to correct any defects in Compiz.

not my opinion, of course: Compiz has been key not only to show the power of many desktop Linux: many of his ideas have been moved to other platforms , and certainly in the future we will see how Compiz is still growing.

If you want, you can encourage smspillaz writing a comment on his blog . I’ve already done, and certainly deserves all the encouragement in the world after their fantastic work .

sure many know this and those who do not, here’s a brief explanation, the Stop Online Piracy Protect Act together with IP, are laws that allow closing websites with all kinds of music, movies or any content that violates the copyrights, both inside and outside the United States and of course, that includes the software.

SOUP SOUP image search and the late release of some

But I do not intend to recount the details of this initiative, which is destructive macro (you can see what they say the FSF, EFF and Creative Commons) and all media movement is causing this, but reflect briefly at the bottom of this matter at the level of users and other aspects that many overlook in this revolt that according to experts, “define the future of the Internet.”

a minute to talk

While this opinion

not necessarily represent the opinion of muylinux and / or their publishers and editors , I want to express a view as someone who lives “on this side of money” in what sense?, to be on the side of Copyleft. Do not talk in terms of copyright and anti-copyright, but what many may not even know that exists, Copyleft, among other resources that give freedom.

I’m not talking

if the political world should approve or not the soup, so I keep outside , the issue is with the current affected, for example anyone of claims made today something to prevent or help to freedom of expression? know there was a man who long ago made it and is neither more nor less than Richard Stallman (then come their statements and speeches and long years of controversy with those who do not necessarily agree).

But the fact is that this gentleman, in turn, applied an interesting reasoning:

The simplest way to make a program free is to put in the public domain, no rights reserved. This allows you to share the program and their improvements to the people, if they so wish. But allows uncooperative people to convert the program into proprietary software. [...]. In the GNU project, our goal is to give all users the freedom to redistribute and change GNU software. [...]. So instead of putting GNU software in the public domain, we Copylefted. Copyleft says that anyone who redistributes the software with or without changes, must be given the freedom to further copy and change. Copyleft guarantees that every user has freedom.

clarify that this paragraph refers mainly to the software and also “license” is not the same as patent, copyright or trademark, which are the elements of discord when it comes to copyright. But you can apply the same principle, almost nobody cares about building on this side of the wall, legally and technically ensure the free exchange of ideas and information , but the advocates of Free Software, its partners and his followers, if “those who always spoke of licenses and the like.”

Now many ask

freedom, but without ever supported technologies and laws that called for freedom , abused to the point of discharge which were always illegal (and often without reason), and generally “try their luck” against organizations and entities that we know to come.

But are things that never bothered the average user with SO pirate, pirated software and a set that includes uTorrent, eMule, Ares, etc.. was hoped that one day the lords of the MPAA, RIAA and all MAFFIA PHARMA, be pissed off waiting

So every time someone chose to pirate a program, each time you saved a few pennies by eMule and every time I supported the large software firms and abusive (often without dropping a single cent on software that both defended ) contributed to give something like this . Today they are the same companies (29 in particular, including Microsoft, Adobe and Apple) that support this initiative.

And today there are many who “wear the shirt of freedom” and not saying it’s wrong, but do so from your OS pirate? … why I say that who get the free shirt they wear serious , not quiet go begging for download right and left, but to build from the base exchange platform and collaboration that they feel is the Internet, codes, content, insights and ideas within a truly free.

I agree that the patent system borders on the ridiculous, soup and Protect IP are unfair and exaggerated, but remember the world we live in and that “powerful gentleman is a gift of money,” so something like this was completely predictable. In short, you may lose this battle the “defenders” of copyright today and the next day business as usual, but I think it’s time for those who “profess to advocate freedom” start really do.

11.10 Pinguy final OS (some beta) available

first_main_article” class=”article readability=”42″>A few days ago we talked

this Linux distribution that tries to offer a user experience as attractive as possible, and now we have at our disposal the final version of OS Pinguy 11.10 , even their own creators defined as a beta release.

OS pinguyos11 Pinguy 500x376 11.10 10 final (some beta) available

Curious

official comment from this announcement:

Because certain things do not feel comfortable releasing this version as final. Some of the applications are being used alpha or beta, and there are some problems as it affecting the proprietary drivers that cause conflicts with the text and flash in the Shell.

Pinguy OS 11.10 is a distribution based on Ubuntu 11.10, and WIN uses GNOME 3.2.1 and GNOME Shell as a desktop interface, which integrates a number of extensions by default.

WebUpd8

speak of those extensions that offer greater functionality to this distribution, and do a minianálisis of it, concluding that “although Pinguy 11.10 OS offers one of the best experiences GNOME Shell out there, there are some things that could have been improved “.

WebUpd8 also point in this version will soon be accompanied an issue with MATE , the project is to revive the GNOME 2.x.

You can download OS

Motorola shows some characteristics of Droid / Milestone 3

Today’s Android operating system for smartphones world’s most . But this would not have been possible were it not for the release of a particular mobile Motorola Droid / Milestone . Since the sale of this device in 2009, came the real mass of Google OS in the world.

appearance of Droid 2 also was very successful, and it seems that third generation is about to make its debut on the market . Have already released several videos in which you can see some key features of the Milestone 3 . After the jump find all the relevant information and clips.

The first thing to note is that the smartphone incorporates a 4-inch screen, HDMI output, five-row QWERTY keyboard and 8-megapixel back camera with LED flash recording video in high definition (HD) . At the moment it is unknown what type of hardware is chosen for the processor.

As regards operating system Android is known to but not yet specified what version. Chances are that the team arrives with the release 2.3.3, because at the moment is the last to be made available .

The videos can be seen still lack a little polish animations and transitions, but should be mentioned that in each clip indicates that the software used is not yet the final . The fact that the Motorola Droid / Milestone 3 is very interesting and will have to wait to see if has the same success of its predecessors .

Ubuntu 11.04 will let you try (some) applications without installing them

    class=”article first_main_article” readability=”40″>

    March 30, 2011 – by techy

has released a new feature in Ubuntu Natty 11.04 Narwhal called Test Drive . This function, integrated in the Ubuntu Software Center allows us to test applications without actually installing them.

500x348 TestDrive will let you try Ubuntu 4.11 (some) applications without installing

reveal OMG! Ubuntu!, Many of us surely we faced a situation where we would have liked to have a look operation of an application before installing it completely, to see if it was worth it.

Well, that is what makes Test Drive “which has nothing to do with that development to test preliminary versions of Ubuntu easily, unfortunate choice of name-that works using a remote server and protocol NX , which allows us to connect to that remote server and use its graphical interface almost like we’re on our team.

Of course, the property necessary to install an extra package called ‘qtnx’ which provides the possibility of remote access that is not distributed with Ubuntu by default.

disappointing detail only the 30 most popular applications on the Software Center Ubuntu be tested with Test Drive, which is somewhat understandable, if not the remote server would probably have too work, but we hope that gradually improves.

Some iOS and Android applications would violate free licenses

    class=”article first_main_article” readability=”48″>

    March 11, 2011 – by Nismrc

AnDevCon presented during the conference days ago for Android developers, OpenLogic released a study on the abuses in the licensing of open source applications for Android devices and IOS and the results striking.

android vs 500x306 ios IOS Some Android applications would violate free licenses

In this study we examined the 635 most important and popular applications for each platform, total 523, and 112 IOs Android and determined that 68 of them raped a free license or open source , specifically 52 and 16 Apache licensed under GPL or LGPL.

know the GPL requires, among other things, to attach a copy of the open license, which gives recognition as free software and source code is available or at least there is a reference how to get , so these would be the most serious cases.

On the other hand the Apache license has even fewer requirements, only to inform the end user in the application used Apache licensed code , in fact not even necessary that the final product inherits the same license (unlike the GPL).

However in most cases detected not meet these simple requirements, whether there were other more blatant cases in which applications include their own End User License with what they intended to cover the source software.

Well, the study’s goal is not to start legal proceedings or anything, but to call attention to the problem and create awareness among developers as the solution in the vast majority of cases, as we have seen, is not really complex.

    Anyway

is important to emphasize what they do as OpenLogic organizations oversee the correct use of free software and open source in all fields and especially one as emerging as the mobile applications.
