mid-year Apple introduced iOS 6 at WWDC and announced the integration of Siri in cars manufactured by some of the world’s major automakers. This morning General Motors (GM) confirmed Spark and Sonic models , Chevrolet, as the first to market with Apple’s virtual assistant.
Siri
be part of the “Eyes Free” and will be connected to the standard system Chevrolet MyLink. The wizard will be activated from the steering wheel via a dedicated key for voice commands, and the only requirement of the users will connect an iPhone with iOS 6 to car using Bluetooth.
Apple platform allow multitasking drivers will though not without its limitations . According to the statement of General Motors, these are the possibilities of Siri in the Chevrolet Spark and Sonic:
Call
contacts using voice commands;
Playing songs from iTunes
and browse radio stations;
Write and send texts via SMS or iMessage – Play messages received;
Access the calendar and add new events.
An interesting point of “Eyes Free” is that remains off screen iPhone while driving and using Siri, which reduces the level of distraction to a minimum. But that’s not all, as it also blocks any command that requires the assistant open a web page.
Chevrolet Spark and Sonic with Siri hit the market early next year, although no definite date yet. The virtual assistant will also debut in iOS 6 cars from Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz and other luxury brands, but will do so later.
