I’m surprised to discover that we have never talked about Pear OS on MuyLinux, a distribution based on Ubuntu French origin whose aim has always been very similar to elementary OS: providing a system desktop marked by an influx of Mac OS X brought almost to the end (in the case of Pear OS is even greater that task, just look at the name).
Today has gone the new version of Linux Pear, Pear OS 7, based on Ubuntu 12.10 and with a very tweaked GNOME 3.6 as desktop environment, but sacrificing for Shell Wingpanel and Plank two elementary project developments.
Other original features of this distribution are MyPear , a kind of desktop configuration wizard; Pear Cleaner , system cleaner, and Pear PPA Manager , whose name says it all. It is also Pear OS Software Center , which is nothing else than the Ubuntu Software Center is renowned as a renowned … Nautilis (Finder is the name and icon …). And we can not forget Launchpad as application launcher full screen.
Otherwise Pear OS 7 comes with Linux 3.5, VLC, Firefox, On Air (looks like a fork of Noise, the music player of elementary OS), Geary Mail (more of the same), Shotwell, Empathy, Brasero, Cheese … Nothing out of the ordinary, go. While, yes, all visually adapted to the last detail , including own set of icons.
If you fancy, you have to download Pear Linux OS 7 at your disposal, but only for 64-bit . I’ve downloaded the curious, I’ve given a few minutes and I recorded a minivideo you can see below (when I say mini is mini, with not very good definition and Virtualbox by, of course):
